María Brotherston, Double Bass
A native of Colombia, South America, who came to the USA in 1990 to study music and currently lives in Aurora, CO.
María is a member of the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra . She holds a Master Degree in Double Bass Performance from the University of Miami, a Bachelor degree in DB Performance from Lynn University (former Harid Conservatory of Music) and a Bachelors of Music Education from the Metropolitan State College of Denver. Her double bass professors include Dr. Lucas Drew and Janet Clippard, both former members of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra then. María worked as an orchestra director for 8 years in a private school and is a Strings Specialist for Aurora Public Schools as well as sub. She has a private studio in Aurora and currently works with the Double Bass students at DSA.
Additional Experience
- Has played with the Denver Philharmonic , Fort Collins Symphony, Cheyenne Symphony
- Played with Singer/Guitarist James Taylor
- Assistant Bass Faculty at New World Schools of the Arts and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
- Participated in many music festivals: Colorado College, Brevard, Sewanee, Round Top, Chautauqua NY and Texas Music Festival.
- Also a teacher of Spanish since her native language is Spanish.
