Professor Paul Erhard’s active national and international work as a performer, teacher, and collaborator with leading double bassists world-wide provides CU bass students with a uniquely broad perspective on the double bass profession. Professor Erhard has enjoyed a richly varied career as a principal double bass in a number of orchestras, a classical soloist, a jazz bass player, and more recently a performer of music of India.  He has been a judge at many international double bass solo competitions where he hears some of the best young double bass players in the world.  His music training has been with famous double bass pedagogues including Homer Mensch at Juilliard, James VanDemark at Eastman School of Music, and Georg Hoertnagel and Franz Ortner at the Music Hochschule in Munich, Germany.  Professor Erhard draws upon these musical experiences as he guides the CU bass students in the development of the art of double bass playing necessary for success in careers as performers and teachers.
