Colorado Allstate Orchestra

Congratulations to those musicians who have been selected to participate in this year’s Colorado All State Orchestra!  We know you have worked hard to get there, now we need to get you there!  Parent volunteers are needed to drive students to Fort Collins and chaperone the three-day trip.  We leave DSA early Thursday, February 9 and return late Saturday, February 11. DSAO will pay for your hotel stay, and you will volunteer your time and vehicle.  If you are a parent of an All State musician please let us know if you are able to help and how many children (basses or cellos) you can fit in your car.  Email Christy Berger.

2012 Jefferson Symphony International Young Artists Competition

Applications for the 53rd Jefferson Symphony International Young Artists Competition, which is co-sponsored by the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, must be postmarked by Sept. 30. Read about this exciting competition and download an application at http://youngartistsmusiccompetition.org.

ELIGIBILITY

• Musicians born after Dec. 31, 1987

• Playing any orchestral instrument except keyboard, piano or organ

AWARDS

First Place

$2,000 cash award + $5,000 5-year annuity

($2,000 to be paid on March 25, 2012, and $1,000 to be paid each August from 2013 through 2017)

Recital performance evening of the competition, January 7, 2012, at the Arvada Center (near Denver)

Possible 30-minute recital (music of winner’s choice) at a fund-raiser on March 23 or 24, 2012, in the Denver area

Performance as soloist with the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra in Golden, CO (near Denver) on March 25, 2012

Second Place

$1,500 cash award

Recital performance evening of the competition, January 7, 2012

Third Place

$1,000 cash award

IMPORTANT DATES

September 30, 2011 – Postmark deadline for application, $50 fee and Round 1 CD

November 15, 2011 – Postmark deadline for finalists’ registration and $50 non-refundable fee

January 7, 2012 – Live competition at the Arvada Center for up to 12 finalists

March 25, 2012 – Performance as soloist with the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra
